چکیده

We present new, low-frequency images of the powerful FR I radio galaxy Hydra A (3C 218). Images were made with the Very Large Array (VLA) at frequencies of 1415, 330, and 74 MHz, with resolutions on the order of 20. The morphology of the source is seen to be more complex and even larger than previously known, and extends nearly 8 (530 kpc) in a North-South direction. The southern lobe is bent to the east and extends in that direction for nearly 3 (200 kpc). In addition, we find that the northern lobe has a flatter spectral slope than the southern lobe, consistent with the appearance of greater confinement to the south. We measure overall spectral indices α 74 = −0.83 and α 330 = −0.89. Subject headings: galaxies: active — galaxies: clusters: individual(A780) — galaxies: individual (3C 218) — galaxies: jets — radio continuum: galaxies

We monitored 3C 273 with VLBI at 15–86 GHz since 1990. We discuss component trajectories, opacity effects, a rotating jet, and outburst-ejection relations from Gamma-ray to radio bands.

Surveys to find high-redshift radio galaxies deliberately exclude optically-bright objects, which may be distant radio-loud quasars. In order to properly determine the space density of supermassive black holes, the fraction of such objects missed must be determined within a quantitative framework for AGN unification. I briefly describe the receding torus model, which predicts that quasars shoul...

We report on optical observations on GRB 000210 obtained with the 2.56m Nordic Optical Telescope and the 1.54-m Danish Telescope starting 12.4 hours after the gamma-ray event. The content of the X-ray error box determined by the Chandra satellite is discussed.
